Violinist, guitarist, songwriter, and music enthusiast
My name is Yolanda Becker, and I was born and raised in southern New Hampshire. At eight years old, I asked my parents if I could take up violin, and the rest is history. I had the privilege of going to Timberlane school district which has an outstanding music program. I will always be indebted to my teachers and music advocates there.
As a freshman, I took up classical guitar private lessons, as my mom is from Spain. From there, I learned pop, folk, and rock songs on my own.
In 2005, I received a Bachelors in Music Eduation from UNH. A few years after graduating from college, I was introduced to the Suzuki method by Louise Pajak, my former HS orchestra director. I received my introductory and Book 1 training at Hartt in CT. It completely transformed the way I taught. I have since then received training certificates in Books 2 and 3.
Starting in high school, my friend Andrea and I would perform for some weddings. In college, she named our ensemble Strings For All Occasions, and we started getting hired for more events. I now manage the group and love it.
I have recorded to two EP’s at my home; you can find them on BandCamp.
“Our lessons have become a space where I can escape to the beauty of music for half an hour a week and that means a lot to me. I’m grateful for your interest in how my week’s been going and your help with all the nitty gritty of violin technique.” -Shirley
